Abstract

The evolution towards more minimally invasive ankle lateral ligament surgeries to stabilize the ankle joint has led to an increase in publications. In this study, the minimally invasive surgical techniques for treatment of chronic ankle instability were classified into four major categories: arthroscopic repair, non-arthroscopic minimally invasive repair, arthroscopic reconstruction, and non-arthroscopic minimally invasive reconstruction. Most papers published after 2000 are level of evidence IV or V. On the basis of this current literature, most of the minimally invasive approaches to treat CAI deserve a Grade C recommendation (poor quality evidence Level III, IV, and V studies recommending for the use of this intervention).
