Features of lodging information in promotion of reservation through the internet: What kind of lodgings are popular in Shinjuku?

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate what type of lodgings is popular on internet business websites. For this purpose, a specific business website, one of the biggest websites for lodging reservations in Japan, will be analysed. In concrete terms, the number of reservations that 20 lodgings in Shinjuku had received in October 2003 was totalled, and these scores reflect the measure of popularity. Meanwhile, the lodging information on the website will be analysed, and it will be used as a measurement of lodging types. Then the relationship between them will be analysed with a correspondence analysis. The results show: (a) the most important criterion is the convenience of services the lodgings provide; and (b) the price "5000jpy" is critical to the split between popularity and unpopularity. In short, the most popular lodgings on the website were convenient and reasonable lodgings.
